US steps up airstrikes in Yemen, killing at least seven - 1

Airstrikes carried out by the United States in the area of the Yemeni capital Sanaa, controlled by the Houthi movement, killed at least seven people and wounded 29 others, the Iran-backed rebel group said on Monday. According to its data, another US MQ-9 Reaper drone was also shot down, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

The US air campaign in Yemen intensified nearly a month ago, after Donald Trump took office again in January. The strikes are targeting the Houthis in response to their attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region. The rebels, for their part, claim that their actions are a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian people amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

According to data from health authorities in Houthi-controlled areas published today, US airstrikes have killed more than 120 people since the offensive began on March 15.

The Houthi satellite channel “Al Masira“ broadcast footage from the scene of the latest attacks, showing firefighters battling flames that erupted as a result of the strikes.

The Associated Press said it was unable to independently confirm which sites were hit. No official statement was issued by the US Central Command, which is responsible for operations in the Middle East, as is often the case with such actions carried out with the approval of the White House.

Despite the lack of specifics about the targets, the White House announced that more than 200 airstrikes have been carried out so far as part of the operation.
