JD Vance: Possible trade deal with US and UK, criticism of Zelensky - 1

There is a serious possibility that the United States and Britain will conclude a "great trade agreement", thanks to President Donald Trump's deep sympathy for the United Kingdom and the royal family. This was stated by US Vice President JD Vance in an interview with the British website UnHerd, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.

He said that although Britain was spared the harshest measures under Trump's initial tariff program, its imports into the United States are already subject to 10% tariffs, and steel and auto sectors to 25%.

In recent weeks, representatives from the two countries have been holding talks, initially focused on cooperation in artificial intelligence and technology, but which could expand to trade in goods.

“The president really loves the United Kingdom,“ Vance said. “He loves the Queen. He admires the King. It's a very important relationship. He is also a businessman with a number of key business interests in the UK.“

Citing the cultural proximity between the two countries, he added: “Yes, I think there is a good chance we will reach a great agreement that is in the interests of both sides.“

Vance, who has taken a tough stance on Europe since taking office in January, has again pushed for increased European defense spending. He has also been critical of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Responding to Zelensky's comments that the US vice president was justifying the Russian invasion, Vance stressed that he had condemned Russia's actions back in 2022, but since then he has sought to understand the strategic goals of both sides.

“This does not mean that you morally support the Russian cause or a full-scale invasion,“ he explained. “But you have to try to understand where their strategic red lines are, just as we are trying to understand how the Ukrainians are looking for a way out of the conflict.“
