Japanese stand up to Trump on tariffs, US president reports great progress - 1

US President Donald Trump announced that "great progress" has been made in trade talks with Japan, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, noting that the head of state made a surprising move last night, personally joining the talks with the Japanese delegation in Washington on the issue of additional tariffs on Japanese goods to the US.

"A great honor for me - I just met with the Japanese delegation on trade. "Great progress!" Trump wrote in a post on his social network "Truth Social", without giving details about the negotiations.

Tokyo sent a delegation to Washington led by Economic and Fiscal Policy Minister Ryosei Akazawa.

Before flying to the United States, he said that his country would demand the complete elimination of additional tariffs on its goods when importing them into the United States.

"Japan is coming today to negotiate on tariffs, military support and "FAIR TRADE", Trump said earlier on "Truth Social", Reuters reported.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed last night, at a meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, ways to deepen cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense and security, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing an official statement from the US State Department.

Among the topics discussed were "efforts to maintain freedom of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea region in accordance with international law", the US State Department explained.

The first diplomats of the two countries also touched on the topic of the imposition of retaliatory tariffs by the US on Indonesia, with Rubio "welcoming the steps of the Indonesian government to implement economic reforms aimed at fair and balanced trade relations", the statement added.
