Moscow: Ceasefire in Ukraine currently unrealistic - 1

A ceasefire in Ukraine at this stage is unrealistic, given that Kiev is not observing the moratorium on attacks on energy facilities, Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya told journalists.

"We had an attempt at a limited ceasefire at energy infrastructure sites, which was not observed by the Ukrainian side. "Under these circumstances, talking about a ceasefire at this stage is simply unrealistic," he said.

The development and adoption of a UN Security Council resolution in support of a possible ceasefire in Ukraine will depend on the terms of the possible agreement, Nebenzya continued.

"We already have a resolution calling for an end to the conflict, which was adopted at the initiative of the United States. "It all depends on the terms of a possible ceasefire and the language of the document," he said.

The Western countries that support Ukraine could not answer the question at the UN Security Council consultations whether they were ready to force Kiev to observe a moratorium on strikes on energy facilities, Nebenzya added.

“Today we raised the issue with the Western countries. No clear answer was given, no one spoke out, there were just the usual attempts to justify everything that the Kiev regime is doing and to blame Russia for everything. We will report this to Moscow and this position will be taken into account.

Nebenzya, who has been the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN since 2017, called the UN Security Council consultations on a moratorium on strikes on energy facilities, which were initiated by the Russian side, “the strangest I have ever participated in“. "I spoke, the United States spoke, no one else spoke," he noted.
