The Ukrainian truck driver who caused a serious accident in Greece this week, killing two people, will face an investigator today, ANA-MPA news agency reports. The man, who lives in Bulgaria, was brought last night with a police escort to the prosecutor's office in Kozani, BTA reports.
The 38-year-old Ukrainian was detained in Veria and charged with reckless driving resulting in a fatal accident, aggravated manslaughter and aggravated assault resulting in bodily harm.
The Ukrainian claims that another car hit him as he was about to pass a toll booth, and he swerved to avoid it, which led to the accident. He will be held until he gives his statement. The man is a father of two children and lives in Bulgaria, ANA-MPA specifies.
V. "Ethnos" reported earlier that the truck had a Bulgarian registration and was driven by a Ukrainian citizen.
The truck and three cars were involved in the accident. The incident claimed the lives of two people and injured five others. Three of them were discharged from the hospital in Kozani on Wednesday.
According to the information of the "Ethnos" newspaper, a fire broke out during the collision, in which the passengers in one of the cars - an elderly couple - died.
During the collision, the truck also hit the cabin of the station operator, who was also injured, "Ethnos" wrote.
