US President Donald Trump said that he and his wife Melania will attend the funeral of Pope Francis.
"Melania and I will attend the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome", the American leader wrote in Truth Social.
Earlier, The New York Post, citing its sources familiar with the American president's schedule, reported that Trump is expected to arrive in the Vatican to attend the pontiff's funeral ceremony. Trump himself previously hesitated to tell reporters whether he would participate in the funeral ceremony.
Francis, who has led the Roman Catholic Church since 2013 after the abdication of his predecessor Benedict XVI (1927-2022), died on April 21 at the age of 89. His funeral will take place in St. Peter's Basilica. The funeral is scheduled to take place between the fourth and sixth days after the date of death. The exact date will be determined by the cardinals on Tuesday.
