Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia has violated the ceasefire more than 2,900 times. Zelensky added that Ukraine has taken retaliatory measures.

The Russian Defense Ministry, for its part, said that Ukraine has violated the ceasefire 4,900 times. The military said Russian forces had "strictly observed the ceasefire".

Putin said on Monday that fighting had resumed after the ceasefire expired at midnight.

He also commented on Zelensky's call for a full 30-day ceasefire, or at least a halt to attacks on civilian targets. Putin said Kiev was trying to "seize the initiative". "We need to think, carefully assess everything and look at the results of the ceasefire," the Russian president added.
