US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has handed over materials to the Justice Department on two suspects in leaking classified information to journalists, the Washington Post reported.
According to her, materials are being prepared to be sent to the department on another leak. One of the cases concerns a publication by the publication about the Venezuelan criminal group Tren de Aragua. At the same time, Gabbard noted that, in her opinion, the culprits are “deep state criminals“.
In 2022 then-Attorney General Merrick Garland issued an instruction that explicitly forbade such investigations from analyzing telephone records of journalists to identify sources who provided classified information for publication.
As the newspaper notes, the events of the past few weeks show that the administration of US President Donald Trump has taken a serious approach to stopping leaks to the media.
Thus, after a series of scandals in the Ministry of Defense, the Chief of Staff of the Deputy Secretary of Defense Colin Carroll, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the US Secretary of Defense Darin Selnick, the Minister's Advisor Dan Caldwell and the former press secretary of the department John Elliott lost their positions.
