US President Donald Trump does not share the idea that Russia could drag out negotiations on Ukraine in the hope of concluding a more favorable agreement with the next American leader, who could be a Democrat.
„I don't think he will do that. I think he wants peace. I think he wants to end this. And I'm pretty confident about that. "But we'll find out pretty soon," Trump told reporters during a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in the Oval Office of the White House.
The head of state was asked whether he thought Russian President Vladimir Putin was in no hurry to reach an agreement on Ukraine in order to get more favorable terms "from a future Democratic president."
Trump suggested that the conflict in Ukraine could drag on for a long time if it is not resolved. "If that doesn't happen, it could drag on for a long time," the White House owner said.
He categorically rejected allegations that he favors one side or the other in the conflict in Ukraine. "I'm not loyal to anyone. I have a loyalty to trying to save lives,“ Trump said.
At the same time, he criticized the previous US administration's decisions to allocate extremely large budget funds to supply weapons, military equipment and other military aid to Kiev.
