The US administration expects a clear clarification of Russia and Ukraine's intentions regarding the peaceful settlement of the conflict next week.
This was stated by Andrew Peake, Senior Director for Europe at the US National Security Council, at a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Levente Magyar.
The Hungarian Foreign Ministry reported that the negotiations between the two took place in Washington.
“According to the American partner, a clear picture of the peace intentions of Russia and Ukraine is expected next week,“ said Magyar.
He noted that the director of the White House National Security Council, who deals with European and Russian affairs, “has not expressed optimism about the possibility of reaching an agreement within a few days, since at the moment Russia and Ukraine are not showing any willingness to compromise”.
Magyar stressed that “Hungary plays a constructive role in the peace process and, according to US assessments, is the only EU member state that is working for peace in accordance with Americans". According to him, Peake called Hungary "the most important European political ally of the United States".
