The US Army intends to significantly increase the use of drones, reports WSJ. The Pentagon plans to equip each division with approximately 1,000 drones and thus get rid of outdated weapons. The reason for this decision lies in the analysis of the US military of the conflict in Ukraine. As the publication writes, citing the opinion of military analysts, drones have changed the shape of military operations, as they are able not only to help overcome enemy defenses, but also to better detect hidden enemy positions.
The US also intends to improve the equipment of troops with tablets and ensure their connection to the Internet, as well as invest about 3 billion USD in the development of technologies to combat enemy drones. The total cost of rearmament of the US forces is estimated at 36 billion USD. The US Army intends to receive such funds, including by abandoning obsolete weapons, but such measures will require approval from Congress. “Army Transformation Initiative“ Earlier this week, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth approved it, the publication notes.
The US military wants to fully implement the plan to equip the ground forces with drones within two years.
