Electric vehicles are undergoing a performance revolution, and Porsche's Taycan Turbo GT, especially in its Weissach configuration, is leading the way. While newer models like the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra may be grabbing headlines with track-specific performance, the Taycan Turbo GT remains a formidable machine that not only delivers blistering acceleration but also exceptional braking and handling prowess, as Motor Trend recently demonstrated.
Motor Trend's tests of the Taycan Turbo GT Weissach, a variant in which the rear seats have been removed to save weight, yielded a stunning 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time of 1.89 seconds, and a standing start time of 2.10 seconds. This 1.89-second time is not only 0.05 seconds faster than the standard Taycan Turbo GT, but also a significant 0.18 seconds faster than the Tesla Model S Plaid. Remarkably, even the standard four-door Taycan Turbo GT, previously tested by Motor Trend, beats the Tesla in this regard.
This acceleration puts the Taycan Turbo GT Weissach in a rarefied position, beating the Ferrari SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano's time of 2.10 seconds and outpacing the Lucid Air Sapphire's time of 2.16 seconds. In fact, it now holds the title of the fastest-accelerating car Motor Trend has ever tested in its 76-year history.
The Taycan Turbo GT Weissach’s quarter-mile time is just as impressive, at 9.23 seconds at 150.1 mph. Only the Lucid Air Sapphire beats it at 9.21 seconds at 157.1 mph. The Taycan Turbo GT Weissach also demonstrates exceptional handling, clocking the fastest time for a sedan on Motor Trend’s test track and the fourth-fastest time overall.
The electric Porsche’s braking performance is just as impressive, with the car stopping from 60 mph in just 300 feet. And when it comes time to charge the battery, the Taycan Turbo GT Weissach proves its efficiency, achieving a 5% to 80% charge in just 19 minutes using a high-speed charger.
