The Japanese government has decided to strengthen the secrecy regime and prevent leaks behind frontier of the latest technologies in some industries, the Nikkei newspaper reported.
According to its data, it is about the production of semiconductors, the latest electronic components, high-capacity batteries, processing machines, industrial robots and aircraft parts. Private companies operating in these areas, when receiving government subsidies and incentives, will have to undertake additional security obligations.
They will have to consult with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry when making decisions to move production overseas. These companies must also sign confidentiality agreements with counterparties. The fulfillment of these obligations will be checked regularly.
The government will also oblige private companies in these sectors of the economy to limit the number of employees allowed to work on secret developments. Upon retirement or transfer to another job, these employees will sign non-disclosure agreements.
Earlier in Japan passed a law introducing in the country a system for special access to secret and important information related to economic security. We are talking in particular about defense systems against cyber terrorism, enterprise supply chains, new technologies and developments. Those given access to such data must, of their own accord, be screened for possible crimes, debts, and drug and alcohol problems. Their family and friendship connections and all aspects of their financial situation should also be checked.
Disclosing classified information can punish an employee with up to five years in prison or a fine of up to ¥5 million (US$32,000). The company where the offender works will also be fined.
