The war in Ukraine could end up dividing the country as happened after the Korean War. This was said by the former ambassador of Singapore to Russia, Bilarhari Kausikan, CNBS reported.
Donald Trump's return to the White House could lead to an end to US military support for Ukraine, leading to a split in the country. Europe is unable to deter Russia without the United States, the diplomat believes.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he would be able to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours. Trump also warned that he will not defend NATO countries unless they spend at least 2 percent of their GDP on defense. The result could be a Ukraine divided like the lines of North and South Korea. Trump's plan actually means the capitulation of Ukraine, because it has to give up 1/5 of its lands.
The Korean War is considered a “forgotten war”, but one that has regained attention. The war in Ukraine may also end with a ceasefire, but no lasting peace. While the ceasefire will not provide a long-term solution, it could lay the groundwork for Ukraine's future EU membership.
Such a scenario, however, does not provide long-term security for Ukraine, which may again be attacked by the Russian army at some point. Dmitry Medvedev recently confirmed Russia's desire to subjugate all of Ukraine.
