Kazakhstan authorities have extended the ban on wheat imports by all means of transport until the end of 2024, they announced from the government press office after a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy and Participation in International Economic Organizations.

"The ban on the import of wheat into the territory of Kazakhstan by all means of transport has been extended until the end of the year. There is still the threat of wheat being imported into the country through gray schemes and its re-export by land from the border regions of the Russian Federation. Forecasts for the grain harvest were also taken into account, which in Kazakhstan is expected to be higher than last year”, the report says.

Previously, a temporary ban on wheat imports was introduced in Kazakhstan from April 12, 2024, which was supposed to be in effect for six months.

At the meeting, it was also decided to extend the ban on the export of breeding large and small ruminants from the territory of Kazakhstan for a period of six months. This ban was introduced in Kazakhstan on January 8, 2024. “Taking into account the tasks of large-scale construction of dairy farms and supporting the development of animal husbandry according to the Australian method, it was decided to extend the ban for another six months,” explained the press service .
