The Director of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) Eno T. Ebong will be visiting Bulgaria today, December 13. During her stay, she will hold meetings with 13 local partners and sign agreements to support infrastructure in civil nuclear energy, digital communications, cybersecurity, and emergency preparedness and response, the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria specified.

During the visit, Director Ebong will sign four grant agreements with the government of Bulgaria. USTDA will provide funding for project preparation in support of the development of Small Modular Nuclear Reactors (SMRs), safe disposal of spent nuclear fuel, development of cybersecurity standards for institutions, and building a digital information infrastructure for Bulgarian railways. USTDA’s Civil Nuclear Energy Program in Bulgaria continues the Agency’s long history of supporting projects that have the potential to build on U.S. technological competitiveness to advance domestic security priorities. USTDA has played a leading role in supporting the deployment of advanced small modular reactors, as well as large-scale nuclear power plants in developing economies. One such example for Bulgaria is the funding of feasibility studies nearly three decades ago, which contributed to significant exports of U.S. civil nuclear energy technologies to the local market.
