Electricity consumption by households in Western Bulgaria is increasing - 1

The average electricity consumption by household consumers in Western Bulgaria increased by nearly 40% in December compared to November 2024.

The increase is mainly a result of the decrease in temperatures and the fact that more and more households choose to heat themselves with electricity instead of wood and coal.

According to NIMH data, the average temperature in December was 3.3 degrees, while in November it was 5 degrees, and in October - 12.6 degrees. ERM West's analyses show unusually high electricity consumption in some areas of the license territory, because households there have until recently used other sources for heating.

Electricity consumption traditionally increases during the winter months, with statistics showing that it is significantly higher in January and February than in December. Higher consumption also leads to a serious increase in monthly bills. For households heated by electricity, they can increase by up to 70% compared to warmer months, the data shows.

Electrohold recommends that customers use electricity wisely and responsibly. Energy efficiency experts identify a group of measures that can lead to a reduction in energy consumption by between 15% and 40%.
