"The Hungarian government fears that even despite the possibility of a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, high energy prices in Europe will persist, which will kill the economy of the continent," Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in the morning program of the Kossuth radio station.

He recalled that in 2024, EU countries adopted the Budapest Declaration on increasing their competitiveness, which, in particular, provides for measures to reduce oil and gas prices. “But I fear that our great joint promise will not be fulfilled and we will continue to have high energy prices. Energy prices in Europe are rising and this will kill the economy“, said the head of government.

Orbán noted that the first steps in resolving the conflict in Ukraine inspire hope for achieving peace, which will help improve the global economic situation, including the situation in Europe. “Peace is coming and it will be good for the Hungarian economy. The Hungarian economy expects to experience a very strong positive external impact“, said the prime minister.

At the same time, he made it clear that he still does not believe in the ability of the current EU leaders to implement effective policies in the interests of all countries of the community. “Perhaps peace will have a positive impact on the entire European economy, but I do not expect any management decisions in Europe from Brussels, Berlin or Paris that could have a positive impact on the Hungarian economy“, Orbán concluded.
