The policy of US leader Donald Trump is paralyzing the wind energy sector in the US, reports the Wall Street Journal.
After returning to the White House, Trump signed an executive order to suspend the issuance of federal permits for the installation of wind farms in coastal waters and on land, as well as to review licenses already issued, the publication recalls. While work on projects that began before these measures were taken continues, the companies involved are left in a deadlock and uncertain about what lies ahead.
In particular, French energy company TotalEnergies postponed its offshore wind projects in the US by 4 years, British oil and gas giant Shell suffered losses of 1 billion USD, and Danish energy company Orsted's losses reached 1.7 billion. USD, The Wall Street Journal notes.
Trump announced on January 21 that the US administration would take steps to increase hydrocarbon production in the country and abandon the development of wind energy. He added that the US is believed to have “more oil and gas than any country in the world“ and called wind energy “the most expensive form of energy“.
