Chinese authorities oppose US plans to create a joint venture between the Taiwanese chip manufacturer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and the American company Intel. This was stated by the official representative of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Zhu Fenglian.

“The administration of the ruling Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), for its own benefit and in response to endless demands from external forces, is using Taiwan's semiconductor industry and the island's industrial strength as an opportunity to rely on foreigners to achieve Taipei's independence“, she said at a briefing, commenting on the possibility of creating such a joint venture, as well as US President Donald Trump's decision to focus chip production on Taiwan, rather than the United States.

As Zhu Fenglian explained, the DPP is using TSMC as a “gift” to the United States. “The concerns and doubts of all sectors of the island's population about the transformation of TSMC into the so-called USMC are growing rapidly“, she stressed.

The official spokesperson added that in this way the DPP “ is once again trading in the interests of the people, enterprises of Taiwan“. “More and more residents and companies on the island are speaking out against this kind of behavior, when it is not shameful to sell out Taiwan“, she concluded.

Earlier, Trump saidthat the United States would impose tariffs on imports of semiconductors. The president noted that up to 98% of the aforementioned business is concentrated in Taiwan and he intends to return these manufacturers to the United States.
