Several Canadian cafes have changed the name Americano to Canadiano on their menus in protest against the policies of US President Donald Trump, reports The Washington Post (WP).
The cafes are unhappy with Washington's intention to impose tariffs on imported goods against Ottawa, as well as with the rhetoric of Trump, who has repeatedly stated his desire to make the North American state the 51st state of the United States.
The Kicking Horse cafe in British Columbia has launched a renaming campaign, calling on other establishments to follow suit. Social media users deemed the idea silly, recalling the origin of the name, which appeared during World War II, when American soldiers during the campaign in Italy diluted Italian coffee with water because they considered it too strong.
Kicking Horse soon deleted its post, but some establishments in British Columbia and Toronto picked up the idea and changed the name of the drink on their menus in a similar way.
