Thailand's aviation regulator has banned all flights at airports in the country after today's strong earthquake, The Nation newspaper reported.
“A flight ban order has been issued for all airports in the country“, the statement said.
At the same time, Bangkok airport said on its Facebook page that it was continuing to operate "as usual".
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and the TFEX futures exchange have suspended trading amid a strong earthquake in Myanmar, aftershocks from which caused destruction in Bangkok, the exchange said on its website. SET is Thailand's largest stock exchange, with over 800 companies listed.
The earthquake in Myanmar measured 7.9 on the Richter scale, according to the China Earthquake Administration. It was followed by a second quake measuring 6.4. The tremors struck 33 km southwest of Mandalay, a city of about 1.2 million people. The epicenter was at a depth of 10 km.
