Citizens and lawyers from Plovdiv gathered to protest against what they called: the absurdities in the Bulgarian legal system and the appointment of former GERB MP and current constitutional judge Desislava Atanasova as a Bulgarian representative to the Venice Commission.
According to the protesters, Atanasova does not have the necessary qualities, experience and seniority to occupy such a high position in European law, BNT specified.
Those who came to the Unification Monument said that this appointment is a demonstration of what kind of personnel the new government will quietly fill the quotas in the Supreme Judicial Council from now on and how the future heads of the main courts in our country will be determined.
The protesters demanded clear criteria, transparent and professional rules for selecting senior representatives in the judiciary, rather than the direct appointment of party functionaries
