We have been sustainably maintaining a deficit for the fourth year now, that is, we spend more than we earn. There is a permanent trend for social spending to grow every year. Unfortunately, the 2025 budget, due to the accumulated structural changes, will also have a 3% deficit, which is the maximum allowed. The question here is whether Bulgaria should pursue a course that systematically accumulates deficits, which means that we increase the debt, or whether we should spend wisely - as much as we earn. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev in the program “Panorama” on BNT.

He emphasized that current expenses are not financed with credit. “It is not forbidden to use borrowed resources, but if you invest in objects that bring long-term benefits, such as infrastructure or education, an exception is made”.

“Politics in the last four years has turned into a competition in left-wing populism. It is very difficult to make the right decisions here. For years, I have been in the situation of making the right decisions and paying the price for it. However, in the last four years, things were missed”, Donchev emphasized and blamed former Finance Minister Assen Vassilev for this.

According to him, good professionals must be found for the management of the regulators, but what is of particular importance are people with a good reputation. Here, party sterile is not the main term. Professional qualities and authority, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

According to him, it will be an achievement even if we unblock half of the money under the Recovery and Sustainability Plan. We are expected to implement 90% of the funds for the next year and a half, Donchev explained.

This government, which was formed with very heavy compromises, will be under suspicion that it is pursuing the sole goal of survival, whatever steps it takes. For the same reason, it is doomed to make bold moves where there is benefit”, explained Tomislav Donchev.

When asked what the goals are for the cabinet, the Deputy Prime Minister explained: “First of all, a good budget, the eurozone, restoring trust in the state, investments. Nobody makes investments in a state that they do not trust. We must work to restore trust and pursue more ambitious goals related to education, to show character regarding road rage”, he listed.
