During the Easter holidays and weekends, an exceptionally large number of police officers are engaged to monitor the use of alcohol, drugs, technical condition of cars, incorrect maneuvers that lead to accidents, explained Ivo Bikov from the "Traffic Police" at a briefing on the upcoming holidays.
Bikov also stated that the idea and goal is to prevent accidents and accidents. Unbranded cars with civilian officers will monitor for violators, take photos and pass them on to their colleagues. If they can, they will stop them on the spot to sanction them, and if they cannot, they will be sanctioned at a later stage.
Bikov expressed his expectation that today will be much calmer, given that traffic on the roads was heavy on Thursday. There were accidents, but most were minor and without injuries, the Ministry of Internal Affairs also said. During the day in Sofia, 10 drivers were detained for alcohol.
At night, a patrol of the "Traffic Police" stopped for a check on the "Hemus" highway, a car driven by a man. He tested positive for alcohol over 2 per mille, as well as a positive test for amphetamines. The driver said that he had set off on the "Hemus" highway in the direction of Burgas, where he would spend the holidays. "The speed limit is 140 km/h, at best he will drive at 140 km/h, what could have happened if we hadn't stopped him. The driver has been detained, as well as his car", said Bykov.
