13-year-old Alex, who has been in the capital's Pediatric Hospital for more than a month with meningococcal infection, has been discharged. For about two weeks, the boy was in the intensive care unit of the medical facility in critical condition. However, the doctors' efforts yielded results and he is now with his family, NOVA reports.
Earlier, his younger brother, who was also diagnosed with meningococcal infection, was also discharged from the medical facility. However, he had no complications.
The boy's health problems began on April 6, when he developed a severe headache and high fever.
After two days of home treatment, his condition worsened and he began vomiting. Alex was initially admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital, and on April 11 he was transferred to pediatrics due to the need for intensive care.
"The patient was admitted in a severely impaired condition, requiring intensive care due to quantitative disorders of consciousness. During this treatment, his condition gradually stabilized and I would say that he is in a stable condition - an improvement compared to the time of admission to the hospital," said the head of the intensive care unit at the "Prof. Ivan Mitev" SBALD; Dr. Tanya Teneva.
