Over a thousand navigation signs will be replaced along the Danube River. This is made possible thanks to European funding worth nearly 300,000 leva, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.

In the next two months, all coastal signs that are part of the navigation system for shipping on the Danube River will be replaced. The "Dismar" project, thanks to which this activity is also financed, is strategic for the "Interrec" program - Romania-Bulgaria and its partners are the Romanian River Administration and the Bulgarian Executive Agency for the Study and Maintenance of the Danube River:

"These 1020 coastal signs will be installed along the entire length of the Bulgarian section of the river - from the mouth of the Timok River to the border near the city of Silistra. The purpose of the delivery of these navigation signs is to improve navigational safety, respectively, the marking of the shipping lane and the coastal situation along the river", said Eng. Ivelin Zanev - Director of the Bulgarian Agency. He explained that 528 non-illuminated coastal signs, 472 kilometer signs and 20 coastal lighthouse signs will be delivered, which will support shipping safety.

Within the framework of the project, floating navigation signs - buoys will also be delivered, as well as two non-self-propelled vessels, which will be used to service the coastal signs, one for each of the partners, respectively.

In addition, a common information system for monitoring and management of navigation signs in the common Bulgarian-Romanian section of the Danube River will be developed and implemented.
