The Easter journey of Bulgarians began on Thursday evening, but the most intense traffic was registered yesterday, when about 50 cars per minute passed at the exits of Sofia. Data from the institutions indicate that nearly 300,000 Bulgarians are traveling in the country for the holidays, while about 120,000 have preferred to celebrate Easter outside Bulgaria.

According to information from the "Road Infrastructure" Agency and the Ministry of Interior, this year Greece is also establishing itself as the most desired destination – half of those traveling abroad have gone to our southern neighbor.

Traditionally, the "Struma" motorway has become one of the most problematic sections. Yesterday afternoon, kilometer-long traffic jams formed in the Kresna Gorge region in the direction of Greece. Long columns of cars stretched out before the "Zheleznitsa" tunnel, where traffic police officers regulated traffic by gradually allowing vehicles to pass through in order to prevent congestion inside the tunnel. A traffic jam was also registered immediately after the exit of the facility.

The "Road Infrastructure" Agency and the Ministry of Interior urged drivers traveling to Bansko to use the right lane, and those heading towards Sandanski and Greece to use the left lane. The Blagoevgrad Regional Road Administration also appealed to travelers to postpone, if possible, their trips to Greece, Bansko and Dobrinishte due to extremely heavy traffic.

A complex traffic situation was also reported on the "Trakia" highway, where a chain accident occurred in the Manolsko Konare area. The incident caused additional traffic delays, which a number of travelers also reported through posts on social networks.
