The Woven City project (ed. note. Thin City) of the Japanese automotive giant Toyota is almost ready. It is located on the territory of the company's former factory and is ready to welcome its first residents. The investment is worth 10 billion USD.
The official opening of the first phase of the project will take place in the fall of this year, when the complex will welcome its first 100 residents. All of them will be employees of Toyota or its subsidiary Woven by Toyota. The buildings of the first phase will be able to accommodate a total of 360 people.
Woven City is located at the foot of Mount Fuji. The design of the buildings is the work of Danish architect Bjarke Ingels.
The next phases are planned to accommodate up to 2,000 people.
It has been decided that the utilities will be powered by hydrogen fuel technology, which the company has.
It is interesting to pay attention to the connection between the name of the complex - – “Thin City“ and the three types of streets that the complex has. The first are intended for fast vehicles, the second for slower ones, such as bicycles and scooters, and the third are reserved for pedestrians only.
The idea of Woven City is not only for it to be a place to live and work, but also for inspiration and realization of various new types of products and ideas.
