Two people have been charged with an armed robbery at a casino in the capital's district "Nadezhda 1". They are criminally active and have been repeatedly convicted. The two have been detained for up to 72 hours, and a request is pending to the Sofia District Court (SRC) for taking measures of detention "Detention in custody", BGNES reported.
On February 18, shortly after 5 a.m. in a gaming hall in "Nadezhda 1" two masked men enter, one armed with a gun, threatening two girls who were at work at the time and demanding the key to the cash register and the cash available, Emil Emilov from the "Robbery" Sector told journalists. at the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs (SDVR).
After taking the amount of about 9 thousand leva, the two individuals withdrew in an unknown direction.
"In connection with the crime committed, after immediate actions taken by the "Robbery" Sector, Second District Directorate and the "National Police" Main Directorate, the car in which the individuals were traveling was identified, and its place where it was parked was also located", Emilov announced and indicated that immediate containment measures were taken, and in the dark of the day the two individuals suspected of committing the crime were detained.
During the subsequent procedural and investigative actions – search and personal searches, at the address of one of the individuals, part of the stolen money was found.
"The materials were reported by colleagues from the SDVR to the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office (SPO). After reviewing the case, the supervising prosecutor assessed that sufficient evidence had been collected, and both individuals were charged with robbery under the conditions of complicity", announced SPO spokesman Nikolay Nikolaev, specifying that both are criminally active and repeatedly convicted, including for various crimes against property.
A part of the amount has been established, he added, adding that operational and search measures are underway regarding the other part of the amount.
When asked how it was established that this amount was from the robbery, the SPO spokesperson replied that this was in the process of proving. "Money was found. In the process of proving it will be established whether this is the same amount, respectively whether the evidence will be confirmed for the involvement of these defendants. At the moment they are one-sided", he explained.
By order of the supervising prosecutor, the two have been detained for up to 72 hours. "A request is pending to the SRC for taking measures of restraint "Detention in custody", Nikolaev announced.
During the pre-trial proceedings, it will also be established whether the car is legally owned.
"Regarding the threat - yes, a gun was pointed at the employees," Nikolaev added.
The two detainees, who are over 30 years old, have participated in other robberies and have been convicted of such acts.
