Deputy Mayor of Vidin and Regional Coordinator of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Has Been Detained

At "Vasil Levski" Airport in Sofia, Vidin Deputy Mayor for Construction Nayden Yonov was detained, reports bulnews.bg.
He arrived from abroad and was detained on the basis of a prosecutor's order. He is currently in the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs.
Nayden Yonov was returning with his wife from an exotic trip to Zanzibar. He was detained at the airport and was held in custody for 24 hours. He is most likely to be charged tomorrow.
The competent authorities - the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs - are currently refusing to comment on the case.
Today it became known that the mayor of Vidin Municipality has dismissed Yonov from his position and his replacement is urgently being sought. Now the position is temporarily held by Rumen Lilov, director of the "Territorial and Urban Planning" Directorate.
On February 13, the Vidin city hall began working under "siege" after representatives of the Committee for the Prevention of Corruption, the police, the National Agency for National Security, and the Commission for Combating Corruption entered it. They began inspecting, seizing and copying documents from the office of the Deputy Mayor for Construction Nayden Yonov and the services related to work in the construction sector and public procurement. The next day - Friday, the interrogations of officials from the city hall continued in the building of the Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications - Vidin. An inspection was carried out on site in the municipal administration and documents were seized in the department of "Territorial Development and Infrastructure Development".
The District Prosecutor's Office (DP) Vidin officially announced that investigative actions were being conducted in the city hall building on a pre-trial proceeding initiated and monitored by the DP against an official from the Vidin Municipality for the award and implementation of public procurement contracts. The investigation is being conducted following a report to the Commission for Combating Corruption. As part of the pre-trial proceedings, an inspection is being carried out to establish the actions of the official.
A day after representatives of the Committee for the Prevention of Corruption and Corruption of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party and various institutions entered the city hall to inspect the official for abuses of public procurement, the management issued a statement.
An official statement on the case was published on the Vidin Municipality website, stating that documents on paper and electronic media related to public procurement carried out on the territory of the municipality were requested and provided. “The documents provided relate to two companies that signed contracts with the Municipality worth 351,966 leva and 158,783 leva excluding VAT.
