A scheme to drain funds from the NHIF was revealed by the police in Lovech, the Ministry of Interior announced. The established abuses are for over 880,000 leva.
The investigation by the employees of the "Countering Economic Crime" sector at the ODMVR-Lovech began after receiving information that fictitious examinations and treatment were being reported in a medical center with branches in Lovech and Lukovit. The investigators seized medical documents with false content for about 1,400 patients, mainly from Northwestern Bulgaria.
Correspondence from mobile applications for amounts paid to medical personnel, related to the reported fictitious treatment, was also seized.
The documentation shows that for 2023 the company illegally received about 171,000 leva from the NHIF budget, and last year - about 711,000 leva.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case.
