West Ham manager - David Moyes said his team could have led by two or three goals during the 1/4-final rematch in the Europa League against Bayer Leverkusen, FOCUS reported.
"The Hammers" finished with a 1:1 draw as hosts and after a total score of 1:3 dropped out of the tournament.
"I can't fault the players for their efforts and if we were to go out of the Euros, I wanted to at least go out playing like this. I think the team performed excellently. I think we were on a level against Bayer Leverkusen both games - different tactics, different performance. In the second match we were completely different from the first match and put them under more pressure.
We really should have taken a 2-0 lead, and probably three goals in the first half, but we couldn't convert. In the second half Bayer changed things, brought in fresher players and we just couldn't keep up the same energy level. They released Frimpong in the second half and that gave them a bit more width.
We would like to qualify for the European club tournaments again. We have really enjoyed being involved in the last three years and this was our third quarter-final. We brought West Ham supporters European football and we were not relegated in the early stages. We've won every group we've been in. "We played really good football today, but we have to give credit to Bayer too for what they are doing," Moyes said.
