Manager Eddie Howe believes that goalkeeper Martin Dubravka can stay at Newcastle after the end of the transfer window, writes the DPA agency. The 35-year-old Slovakian has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia's Al Shabab and is entering the final six months of his contract with the "Magpies", reports BTA.
Dubravka has conceded just two goals in Newcastle's last seven games, each of which ended in a win.
Asked if Dubravka himself wants to stay, Howe replied: "Martin is in a difficult situation, as is the case with any player whose contract expires in the summer. With every player like that I've worked with, it's the same - they feel insecure."
"It's quite normal for him to want guarantees about his future, whether it's a contract with us or something else. But he's certainly playing very well with our team and I'm very happy with him. He played a major role in our winning streak and against Arsenal he was perfect. I hope we can reach an agreement with him," added Howe, quoted by DPA.
Dubravka was signed in January 2018, but was mainly a reserve for the "Magpies" and even spent a short period on loan at Manchester United.
