Ghanaian journalist Kwaku Ade reports that Ludogorets winger Bernard Tekpetei is about to make his debut for the Bulgarian national team. He is expected to be able to do so in the world qualifiers that begin in September, writes “Match Telegraph“. Subject to FIFA procedures, Tekpetei will be eligible to represent our country from August 1 this year.
On September 4, the national team hosts Spain in their first world qualifier, and three days later they play Georgia. Tekpetei recovered from a serious injury sustained in the match with Qarabag, and is currently playing for the “Eagles“ double.
Tekpetei could become the 14th naturalized foreigner for the national team, with 11 of them this century. The defender with the most appearances is Predrag Pažin - 31, and Marcelinho is the only one with more than one goal - he scored twice. Dragoljub Simonović and Thiago Silva have only one appearance each.
