Saudi Arabia is actively working to transform its country into a high-tech tourism hub center. As part of this initiative, the government has inaugurated a new driverless metro line, which is billed as the longest driverless metro line in the world.

Riyadh Metro officially opened on December 1. Three lines are currently operating there, and another one will be launched in January. Two more are planned to be added after that. The total length of the metro is 176 km, which allows connecting the most important areas, business centers and cultural attractions throughout the capital.

Once completed, the new transportation system will be able to carry up to 3.6 million passengers per day. The solution will help reduce congestion in the capital and even reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 12.5 million tons. The subway includes 85 stations.

To support traffic, 116 electric trains will be used, including 69 Alstom Metropolis locomotives and 47 Innovia Metro trains. The new metro will offer three different classes: single, family and first class.

All carriages will be equipped with comfortable seats, modern LED lighting, air conditioning and passenger information systems, but there will be no drivers in them.
