How to prepare your car for winter - 1

The winter season is a real test for any car. Low temperatures, ice and snow not only make driving conditions difficult, but also put additional strain on the technical condition of your vehicle. Properly preparing your car for winter will help avoid unexpected breakdowns and make every trip safe. Let's analyze which elements of your car should be checked before the onset of cold weather.

Battery

The battery is one of the most vulnerable elements of the car in winter. A drop in temperature can significantly affect its performance. If your battery is more than three years old or you have already noticed difficulties starting the engine, it is worth checking its charge and, if necessary, replacing it.

Tires

Winter tires are not just a recommendation, but a necessity. They provide better traction and shorten the braking distance on a slippery surface. Before installing tires, check the tread depth - it should be at least 4 mm. Also, do not forget to check the tire pressure, because in cold temperatures it can decrease, which affects the handling of the car. The tires must not be older than 4-5 years, which is checked with the so-called DOT.

Braking system

The braking system is another extremely important element. Checking the condition of brake pads and discs will avoid unpleasant surprises. If you notice screeching or other noises when braking, this may indicate the need to replace worn parts. Also, make sure that the brake fluid level is normal, as it is responsible for the proper operation of the entire system.

Antifreeze

Antifreeze is a key element for stable engine operation in winter. If the fluid does not meet the recommended parameters, the cooling system can freeze, which will lead to expensive repairs. Test the quality of antifreeze by removing some of it with a medical syringe and leaving it for a day in the freezer. And if necessary, replace it with a suitable type that protects the system at low temperatures.

Wipers and washing liquid

Windscreen wipers and washers are often overlooked, but they are the ones that ensure good visibility in difficult weather conditions. Replacing old wiper blades and using winter washer fluid will help avoid situations where the glass is covered with dirt or ice.

Lighting

Don't forget about lighting. Short winter days and poor road visibility require well-functioning headlights. Check that the bulbs are not burned out and adjust the headlights so that they do not dazzle other drivers, but at the same time illuminate the road well.

Rubber seals

Special attention should be paid to the rubber seals of the doors and trunk. In winter, they often freeze, which can cause damage. Use special products for the care of rubber seals - this will help preserve their elasticity and protect against the negative effects of freezing.

Body preparation

It is equally important to prepare the "body" of the vehicle. Salt and road chemicals can cause corrosion. Before the cold weather sets in, give the car a thorough wash and apply a protective layer of wax. This will help reduce the impact of harsh chemicals on the paint.

Conclusion

By investing time in preparing your vehicle for winter, you protect yourself and your passengers from unnecessary risks. Timely inspection and care of your car will ensure you comfortable and safe driving during the winter season.
