William Hague: An end to support for Kiev will be more humiliating for the US than leaving Afghanistan - 1

< strong>If Washington decides to stop supporting Ukraine, it will be an even greater humiliation for the US than leaving Afghanistan. This opinion was expressed by former British foreign minister William Hague in a podcast of the British daily newspaper The Telegraph, quoted by FOCUS.

He stressed that if the future administration of President Trump allows the "collapse of Ukraine”, it will hit the authority of the United States

Haig recalled that Trump criticized Biden for the decision on Afghanistan "but if he leads to the collapse of Ukraine, that will be a much greater humiliation for the United States.

"It is in Trump's own interests to maintain the power of the West in the world,”, Hague is convinced.

At the same time, the former minister warned the Trump administration not to hope to "quick fix” the war or "to settle it under conditions that will be advantageous to Russia”. He noted that freezing the war on the contact line would mean laying the foundations for a new war.

"This will lead to another, third war, because Putin will come again for what is left,”, Haig expressed his conviction.

"Very clearly, he wants all of Ukraine. At the very least, he wants so much that what's left can't function as a sovereign state, so it can't become a member of the EU, NATO, can't give loans, can't get money to rebuild cities . .That is, so that it is not a functional state”, the diplomat explained the plans of the ruler of the Kremlin.

According to him, without security guarantees from the US and NATO, Ukraine will not be able to exist as a state and will not be able to "stop Putin in two years, after he rebuilds his armed forces and comes back for the rest”.

"You can naively say we will establish peace in 24 hours, but that will not help if you are building a new war,”, Haig emphasized.

According to him, if Trump stops aid to Ukraine, the European Union and Great Britain will have to strengthen theirs. But, as the diplomat noted, this aid cannot replace American aid and is only temporary. But, as the former minister noted, it is not only about money, but also about technology. "Without American satellites and software from American companies, Ukraine would not have survived until the time when European countries did not have an arsenal of weapons to support Ukraine in a full-scale modern war,” says the British diplomat.

At the same time, he added that this applies not only to Ukraine - no country can defend itself without the help of the United States.

"For any democracy, if a country comes under sustained attack, it will be very difficult to survive without the goodwill and generosity of the United States,” says Hague.
