Prof. Vladimir Chukov: Bashar al-Assad is isolated from everyone except Iran, even Russia has lost confidence in him - 1

The situation in Syria is a normal ending of the regime of Bashar Assad after his refusal to follow the road map for development of Syria, drawn up by the UN Security Council. There is already a script that is being followed and a slow handover of power is being seen – the leader of "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" Ahmed al-Shareh officially charged the government to continue working and ensure the normal life of Syrians. This is what he said in the program "Metronome" on Radio "Focus" the Arabist prof. Vladimir Chukov.

In his words, Bashar Assad has remained isolated from everyone except Iran, and even Russia itself has lost its trust in him after several times offering him the drafting of a new constitution, contacts with the opposition, reconciliation with Erdogan. "After rejecting all this and his internal social base, external support was very narrowed and this was the logical conclusion of this story. He should have just left in 2013-2014."

The path to the normalization of the state, the transformation of the state into a well-functioning mechanism, according to him, will be very difficult and Syria must still find its internal balance, and then its return to the international community is also important. "So we will see the formation of political parties, we will see the positions of the relevant regional factors that have played a big role so far – Turkey, Russia, Iran. A key moment is the lifting of sanctions by the USA and the restoration of ties with the European Union."
