The father and stepmother of Sarah Sharif, a 10-year-old girl who was found dead in her home in Britain, were sentenced to 40 and 33 years in prison, respectively, for her murder, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Sharif was found dead in August 2023 in her home in Woking, a town southwest of London. According to the prosecution, she was subjected to systematic and serious violence.
Sarah's father, Urfan Sharif, 43, and his wife, Bainash Batul, 30, fled to Pakistan immediately after Sarah Sharif's murder, but were arrested in September 2023 at London's Gatwick Airport after a flight from Dubai.
Prosecutor Bill Emlyn Jones told the jury at the start of the case that Sarah had suffered injuries including burns, several broken bones and bite marks.
Urfan Sharif and Bainash Batul appeared at London's Old Bailey on charges of murder, which they deny. Last week, a jury found the two guilty of Sarah's murder.
