Drones banned over critical infrastructure sites in New York - 1

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) plans to temporarily ban drone flights over critical infrastructure sites in New York due to widespread public concern, the state's governor said late on Thursday, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement that she had spoken with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who told her that "the FAA plans to grant temporary restrictions on flights over some of New York's critical infrastructure sites – this action is purely precautionary; there is no threat to these sites."

Discussions on the topic began in November, when an unmanned flying object appeared over New Jersey near a military installation. Videos of bright lights in the sky spread quickly on social media and sparked heated speculation ranging from secret military exercises to aliens, the AP recalls.
