Acting South Korean President Choi Sang-mok and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken held talks in Seoul to discuss the bilateral alliance and North Korea, the Republic of Korea's Ministry of Finance, led by the interim head of state, reported.
Choi Sang-mok thanked the United States for "the demonstration of support and confidence in South Korean democracy".
„I.d. The president requested continued close cooperation in preparing for the possibility of various provocations by North Korea based on the strong defense capacity of the Korea-US alliance,“ the ministry said.
On January 6, for the first time this year, North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan.
Anthony Blinken expressed condolences for the Jeju Air plane crash on December 29 and said he was ready to provide necessary assistance. The US side noted that it has full confidence in the leadership of Choi Sang-mok and expressed hope for continued cooperation in a trilateral format with Japan and South Korea.
