The hostile actions of the US will not go unanswered and will be taken into account when building Russia's foreign economic strategy. This is stated in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding the latest US sanctions against the Russian Federation.
The Russian diplomatic department points out that the decision of the current US administration to introduce new restrictive measures against the energy sector as a whole and a number of large companies, including personal sanctions against their leadership and officials from the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, is "an attempt to inflict at least some more damage on the Russian economy, even at the cost of the risk of destabilizing world markets on the eve of the end of the inglorious term of President Joe Biden."
The diplomatic department points out that Russia has been and remains a key and reliable player in the global fuel market, "despite the convulsions in the White House and the machinations of the Russophobic lobby in the West, which is trying to draw the global energy sector into the hybrid war" that was unleashed by the United States against Russia".
The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that against the backdrop of "Washington's failure in its quest to inflict "strategic defeat" of Moscow and the sanctions pressure aimed at undermining the Russian economy, which, despite unprecedented external pressure, has not only survived but also continues to develop, the efforts of the outgoing White House team are aimed at making any bilateral economic ties, including those for American business, as difficult and impossible as possible".
In this way, the interests of both the US's European allies, forced to switch to more expensive and unprofitable and risky American supplies, and their own population, which is currently suffering from the consequences of large-scale fires in California and whose opinion on the increase in fuel prices, which was important before the presidential elections in November, when Russian oil products were purchased through intermediaries, can now be ignored, are sacrificed.
According to the position, the future president (Donald Trump, ed.) remains on "scorched earth" - in a literal and figurative sense, since he does not have the right to lift the sanctions without the approval of Congress.
The department assures that the implementation of large domestic projects for oil and gas production, the provision of oil services and the construction of nuclear power plants in third countries will continue.
"Rosatom" also issued an official comment, distributed by a Bulgarian PR agency. According to it, the imposition of personal sanctions on the leadership of the Russian state corporation emphasizes that they are unfounded and illegal. Since "Rosatom" is a world leader in the export of nuclear technologies, the company views them as a form of unfair competition from unfriendly countries.
"Rosatom" also states that they have already adapted to the sanctions regime in which they have existed for three years and are prepared to continue to fully fulfill all obligations and commitments.
