Leaders of NATO countries from the Baltic region will hold a security meeting in Helsinki today, DPA reported, BTA reported.

The meeting will take place after recent acts of alleged sabotage in the Baltic Sea.

The main goal of the meeting is to discuss ways to better protect critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea and to counter threats coming from the so-called "shadow" fleet of Russia. These are ships that Russia uses to transport, for example, oil, bypassing sanctions imposed against it due to the invasion of Ukraine.

The meeting will be hosted by Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal. The leaders of Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden are also expected to participate in the meeting.
