The Polish presidency of the Council of the EU will accelerate the process of Ukraine's accession negotiations. This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Warsaw, BTA reports.
We expect negotiations to start on at least three chapters by July, Zelensky noted. He added that they had talked with Tusk about the production and supply of weapons. The Ukrainian president added that his country already manages to produce over 30 percent of the necessary ammunition.
We are discussing in principle the sending of military contingents to Ukraine - we are talking about this with French President Emmanuel Macron, we will talk with the British Prime Minister, we had talks with the Baltic partners, he added. According to him, European military instructors are expected to train Ukrainian soldiers on site.
There is no better guarantee of Ukraine's security than NATO membership, Tusk said. The allies must offer a lasting mechanism for security guarantees for Ukraine. No one will solve our security problems for us, the Polish prime minister summed up, calling for the idea of cooperation between Europe and Russia to be rejected, and for the messages of the newly elected US President Donald Trump to be taken seriously.
