The German Defense Ministry will stop using the social platform "Ex", which has been the subject of much criticism since it became the property of technology billionaire Elon Musk, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The ministry announced that in the future it will no longer actively publish on the platform, except in "exceptional cases", such as responding to disinformation campaigns. The decision also applies to other accounts, including those of the German armed forces.
"The main reason for this decision is that, in the ministry's assessment (editor's note), an objective exchange of arguments is becoming increasingly difficult", the statement said.
Instead, the ministry will from now on use the messaging platform "WhatsApp" to provide information on relevant news and decisions taken by the Minister of Defense.
Various other platforms, including "Instagram", "YouTube" and the ministry's own website, will continue to be used for "transparent and broader communication."
MEPs recently called on the European Commission to conduct an investigation into the transparency of posts on "Ex" and whether Musk is promoting his own posts to reach a larger audience, which is in violation of EU law.
