A European Commission spokesman said that while the US has the right to sovereign decisions, the EU regrets Washington's decision to withdraw from important international commitments. This includes the decision to withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the refusal of some global initiatives, BTA reports.
On the issue of the WHO:
The spokesman stressed the need for international cooperation, which the COVID-19 pandemic has shown to be indispensable in the context of global health. The EU not only supports WHO reforms, but also insists on a stable budget for the organization, expressing concern about the US withdrawal.
Energy sector partnership and support for Ukraine:
The EU announced that it remains engaged in the new dialogue with the US, with the priority being the construction of infrastructure for the import of US liquefied natural gas. Despite the US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, the EU will continue to support global efforts to protect the environment. In addition, the Union continues its financial assistance to Ukraine, which has reached 130 billion euros, and actively supports the country's peace process.
