Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said he expects "some progress" on resolving the conflict in Ukraine to be achieved in the next 100 days.
“We're talking months, not years. I would like to believe that we can achieve something in the short term. I would like to see in 100 days either a truce or a lasting peace. But it shouldn't be like what we saw in Afghanistan, where the process dragged on for four years. The solution has to be good for the whole world, he said.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump has tasked Kellogg with ending the Ukrainian conflict within 100 days. The media estimates that "making a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin will be a much more difficult task than Trump imagined during the election campaign, when he said he would end the conflict before he even took office as head of state.
Kellogg claims that the American leader's team has a solid plan to start negotiations on Ukraine.
According to Kellogg, Trump realizes that the Ukrainian conflict is one of the key issues in the field of international relations.
„I am confident that we can really do something. President Trump will be at the forefront of this effort as a master of the deal. I am convinced that we can do this for the American people and for the world. I'm ready for that," he concluded.
Kellogg stressed that Trump intends to put pressure on both Moscow and Kiev in an attempt to facilitate a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
„We're talking about how to put pressure not only on the Russians. And also to offer positive initiatives for Russia, but also on the Ukrainians. We will use pressure points on them. And this will give the US president leverage to end this conflict“, Trump's envoy said on Fox News.
„Let people be calm, Trump knows what he's doing - he knows where to put pressure and where not to. And more importantly, this will create leverage to put pressure on both the Ukrainians and the Russians“, Kellogg said.
„He's a master of the deal, he knows how to put pressure. "And we are talking to him, providing him with different options for action so that he can do whatever he sees fit as president of the United States," the special representative added.
