More than 90% of babies in the Gaza Strip between the ages of 6 months and 2 years do not have access to basic food items, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the occupied Palestinian territories said, quoted by the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
According to officials, the number of children in the Gaza Strip receiving treatment for malnutrition as a result of the ongoing Israeli blockade and closure of checkpoints has increased by 80% compared to March 2025.
As noted by OCHA, in the Gaza Strip, 92% of babies aged 6 months to 2 years do not receive minimum essential nutrients from their mothers, which exposes children to serious health risks that will accompany them throughout their lives.
The ministry also reported that 65% of the population of the Gaza Strip does not have access to drinking water.
On March 18, the Israeli army resumed military operations in the sector, launching massive strikes against it, thus breaking the ceasefire established in January of this year. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained this by Hamas's rejection of the proposals presented during the negotiations by mediators and the US President's special envoy, Stephen Witkoff, stating that the goal of the operation in Gaza is the release of all hostages. The radicals accused Israel and the US of the resumption of hostilities.
