FBI receives questionnaire on Capitol storming investigations, raises fears of layoffs - 1

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) employees in the United States have received a detailed questionnaire about their work on criminal cases related to the events of January 6, 2021, when supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

The questionnaire has raised new concerns about possible layoffs among employees of the law enforcement agency. The document asks employees to indicate their position and role in the investigations of the events of January 6, as well as whether they participated in monitoring these investigations. Responses must be submitted by 3 p.m. (10 p.m. Bulgarian time) today.

On Friday, Acting Deputy Attorney General of the United States, Emil Bove, fired eight senior FBI officials, as well as the heads of the agency's branches in Miami and Washington.

In addition, Bove issued an order demanding that he be provided by noon Tuesday with a list of the names of all employees who worked on the investigations of the events of January 6, as well as on the criminal case against the leaders of the armed group “Hamas“ in connection with the war in the Gaza Strip.

Last week, Bove also fired more than a dozen prosecutors from the Department of Justice who worked on two discontinued criminal cases against Trump, led by special counsel Jack Smith. One case concerns attempts to challenge the results of the 2020 election, and the other concerns classified government documents.

An FBI spokesman declined to comment on the distribution of the questionnaire to employees.

Democrats and other critics of the administration have said that the Trump team is purging FBI and Justice Department officials who were involved in investigations into Trump and his associates, as well as those involved in the Jan. 6 riots.
